PLAY WITH A PURPOSE

Picture
The goal of any Early Childhood program is for children to become curious, enthusiastic learners.  The role of the adult is to facilitate their play.  Play is the primary way a child learns. Playful interactions combined with eye contact and touch are the beginning of neural connections in the brain.  These connections on the outside, build connections on the inside and future learning pathways are created

The Early Years Beginning in infancy, adults have playful interactions with babies.  They observe the infant’s reaction and offer games such as “peek-a-boo” as the baby is interested.  We continue to support play for toddlers to increase their understanding and activity for longer periods of time.  Toddlers enjoy play alone, solitary play, as well as play near other children, parallel play.  The adult can set up activities that encourage exploration.  Preschool children continue to need play to develop large muscles, small muscles, cognitive skills and social skills.  Movement and exploration of the environment are critical for development.  Preschool children enjoy interactive, pretend play and will often spend long periods in constructive play.
